Lisbon is one of the most exciting cities you can visit in Europe. Not only that, but it’s also steeped in history, has loads of things to do and lots of yummy restaurants, too. Not only that, you’ve got the magical, Sintra right on the city’s doorstep. All in all, it makes for an incredible city to visit; and that’s before we even mention all the best views in Lisbon to find.

There’s so much to see and do in the city, plus the nightlife is absolutely incredible so suffice it to say, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a dull moment in Lisbon. That being said, there are so epic spots and the best view in Lisbon to find that you really shouldn’t miss.

Lisbon is covered with terraces also known as ‘miradouros’ where you can do just that. Plus, on top of that, there’s a heap of viewpoints you kinda can’t miss in the city that isn’t just vistas or high up.

You see, Lisbon is totally blessed as a hilly city, so this means you can get some of the best views in Lisbon at lots of places across the city.

Best views in Lisbon

Anyway, with that in mind, take a look at some of the best views in Lisbon to see. Have the best time exploring the city.

1.) Castelo de São Jorge

If you walk along the walls of the São Jorge Castle, you will be rewarded with amazing views over the rest of the city that include the river and a maze of medieval buildings and houses. For me, this is one of the best views in Lisbon that you really shouldn’t miss.

Not only that, but the wall edges are a little shorter than you’d expect here though (especially in the middle) so it’d be understandable if you’re a tad scared of traversing the top of the walls here.

Afterwards, take a wander around the Alfama neighbourhood and explore some of the historic streets and tasty restaurants that are everywhere here.

2.) Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara

Best Things To Do In Lisbon (6)

This is a garden located in the Bairro Alto district of Lisbon so you can kinda come here for the little stroll and stay for the amazing view.

From this vantage point, you can see all the way over to Lisbon’s castle in the distance and many locals claim this is one of the most romantic spots in the city.

It’s perfect around sunset and one of the best views in Lisbon when strolling the city.

3.) Passeio das Tágides

Best Things To Do In Lisbon (36)

A place with a view but not one that relies on you having to scale new heights.

Instead, take in the beautiful view of Lisbon’s glassy marina from the boardwalk that crosses it for some of the nicest vistas in the city. It’s totally gorgeous on a nice sunny day and a really great way to stroll across the promenade, too.

4.) Miradouro das Portos do Sol

From this height, you can see all the medieval buildings that dot the horizon as well as the signature white stucco homes that Lisbon is known for. It’s a great place for a stroll and to see some of the best views in Lisbon.

It’s a totally stunning area of Lisbon to explore and well worth it whilst walking around the hilly parts of the city.

5.) Elevador de Santa Justa

Best Things To Do In Lisbon (37)

The Santa Justa Elevator is perhaps the prime place to visit if you are looking for a scenic spot in the city.

From this elevation, you will have panoramic views that stretch down to the river and all the way to the north of Lisbon. Honestly, the views from the top are gorgeous.

That’s the thing I noticed most about Lisbon, too. You don’t need to scale the highest points in the city to find some of the best views in Lisbon. They’re everywhere and some of the best perspectives are from lower heights.

This is totally great if you get vertigo as you won’t need to worry about some unnecessary heights, too.

Okay, so technically Sintra isn’t in Lisbon but right on the outskirts of the city. That being said, it’s one incredible place to visit for a day trip that’s totally gorgeous.

Not only that, but there’s also a heap of the best views in Lisbon to get from the palaces and ruins themselves. The whole UNESCO protected area is stunning and well worth driving (30-minutes) or taking the train (40-minutes) to explore.

We totally love our trip here and it’s so pretty and unique.
